Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Bahr (بحر). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it.

By using the Bahr application ("App"), you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account Information: Full name, email address, phone number, and password when you register.
  • Profile Data: Profile photo, nationality, and communication preferences.
  • Booking Data: Reservation details, selected properties, dates, and add-on services.
  • Payment Information: Payment method type (card, InstaPay, etc.). We do not store full card numbers; all card transactions are processed by PCI-DSS-compliant payment providers.
  • Usage Data: Screen interactions, search queries, features accessed, and session metadata collected for analytics and product improvement.
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, app version, and unique device identifiers.
  • Location Data: General location (city/region) when you search for properties. We do not track precise GPS location without your explicit permission.
  • Communications: Messages exchanged with property owners or our support team through the in-app chat system.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To process and fulfill bookings and related services.
  • To send booking confirmations, reminders, and administrative notifications.
  • To provide in-app customer support and concierge communication.
  • To improve our platform using anonymized analytics and conversion data.
  • To personalize your search results and property recommendations.
  • To prevent fraud, unauthorized access, and ensure platform security.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations in Egypt and internationally.

4. Firebase & Third-Party Services

Bahr is powered by Google Firebase, which provides our authentication, database (Firestore), cloud storage, and analytics infrastructure. Firebase processes data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

We also integrate with:

  • Payment Processors: External services for card and e-wallet transactions (e.g., Fawry, Paymob). These providers have their own privacy policies.
  • Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics: For performance monitoring and crash reporting.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): For push notifications.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share your information only in these circumstances:

  • With Property Owners: Your name and contact details are shared with the relevant property owner upon a confirmed booking, to enable check-in coordination.
  • With Service Providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate the platform (payment processors, cloud providers, analytics). These parties are contractually bound to protect your data.
  • For Legal Compliance: When required by law, court order, or government authority.
  • Business Transfers: In case of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred. You will be notified before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Booking records are retained for a minimum of 5 years for financial and legal compliance. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data in transit.
  • Firestore security rules enforcing role-based access control.
  • Regular security audits and Firebase App Check to prevent unauthorized API access.
  • No plain-text storage of passwords (Firebase Authentication handles all credential management).

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to certain types of data processing.

9. Children's Privacy

Bahr is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

10. Push Notifications

We may send push notifications for booking updates, support messages, and promotions. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings. Disabling notifications will not affect the core functionality of the App.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
